Both editions of SOPHISTICATED STAYS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA (English and Italian) are now available in the printed paperback versions through Amazon.

In our continuous effort to better the PadPlaces book production we have been working on the possibility of having our titles available in print at an affordable cost.

The 96 pages book has the same text contents as the E-Book already available for Apple, Kindle, Google Play, but fewer images.

SOPHISTICATED STAYS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA - The new E-Book is now available

The E-Book SOPHISTICATED STAYS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA is now available in PadPlaces. The Italian version, SOGGIORNI CON STILE NEL SUD EST ASIATICO, is available as well.
Both versions are FREE within the app while the iBooks, Google and Amazon Kindle editions costs around 5 US$.

Years of travel reporting in Southeast Asia (in comfort, I have to admit) suggested this gallery of accommodations that are a real addition to the travel experience.

The book, as Massimo Morello, author of the texts says, is a wise guided introduction to "Smart & intelligent boutique hotels (and more) in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Myanmar".

And more, as the introduction says:
“There is the culture of luxury and the luxury of culture,” a wise man once said. He was no hermit or philosopher, but the director (and a bit of a hermit and philosopher) of a hotel at the foot of the Himalayas (so not featured here). His aphorism is useful for understanding the spirit of this book: “the luxury of culture”. The hotels featured here are luxurious, at times extremely so. But luxury does not just mean excellence or exclusivity; it can also describe a place that enables us to live in the moment, to appreciate the natural and cultural space in which we find ourselves. They are places of eminent history, art or design because they are
indicative of a trend. Unlike “non-places”, spaces devoid of identity, these are charged with meaning; they are remarkable spots on the Asian landscape, models of that architecture and life style that is redefining the Orient and spreading from there to the West. Intelligent places.
That being said, this book is not aiming to be any kind of guide. Nor does it claim to be comprehensive (over time, who knows, given it is a work in progress). In order to be featured here, the hotels must have been actually visited and experienced by us. The idea is
luxurious in its very simplicity: to offer a useful tool for sophisticated travellers. For those discerning travellers for whom a hotel is not just a place to go to (or to get bragging rights from), but a part of the journey. Intelligent travellers.

MAJOR UPDATE ON THE WAY

We are working on a major technical update to PadPlaces app. This will make the app more functional on iOS8 and will fill the new iPhones formats. Plus, finally, for future updates the downloaded content will remain in your devices and you will not need to download it again (even if it was for free, of course).

The journalist Cristina Gambaro is giving an insightful presentation of two European realities far apart but that reveal a common ground: how the continent is becoming globalised.

FLAMENCO IN SEVILLE is a cultural reality that is not losing any of it's vigor and appeal, only is spreading to an international audience of fans and apprentices.

The YORKSHIRE ART scene, where modern art is openly mixed with the natural environment or new museums, sees the arrival of international artists that continue a rich local tradition.

SRI KSETRA IS THE NEWEST ADDITION TO UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE LIST

SRI KSETRA is the latest addition to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list!
This was a great success for the local Archaeological team headed by the Italian mission there.
They worked for years to re-evaluate the almost forgotten site, and found a piece of Asian history that fills a long gap.
Not less important is the social environment in which Sri Ksetra is located: the modern Pyay is a true corner of that traditional Burma that is changing so fast with political opening and economic modernisation.

The book SRI KSETRA, written by the archaeological team itself, is available for free within PadPlaces, and also in Apple iBook store, Amazon Kindle and Blurb for the printed version.

The new E-book SRI KSETRA & MODERN PYAY is now available, for FREE, within PadPlaces app.
Dedicated to the archaeological research of an Italian mission in a remote, yet traditional, region of Myanmar (Burma) and the natural and cultural environment that surrounds it, is made available for free thanks to the sponsorship of GLOBAL HERITAGE FUND.
The Pyu ancient culture is scarcely known when compared to other civilizations of Southeast Asia, but the surprises of the past grandeur are many. Even more attractive is the local culture, still untouched by the sudden medernisation that Myanmar is experiencing.
